Covid-19 and its effects

The system houses' view of the pandemic.

For many weeks now, nothing has been the same as it was at the beginning of the year. Nobody could have realistically expected that our business, the way we work and the everyday lives of all our families would change so much. What we have noticed in our many conversations, however, is that there are clear differences in the industries in terms of how severe the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic actually is.

In our latest Markttrend survey, we therefore took a closer look at the system houses:

What impact is the Covid-19 pandemic having on the system house business in Germany?

83% RECORD NEW ORDERS DUE TO THE PANDEMIC

The majority of the system house managers surveyed do not yet view the situation surrounding CoVid-19 and the resulting effects in a particularly critical light. The results of the COMPRiS survey of around 230 system houses / MSPs & system integrators show that project postponements are clearly to be expected in the middle to end of the year; only a small number of customers are talking about cancelations.

11% responded to the impact on their own company by announcing short-time working and 10% by closing business premises. 87% stated that they had ordered or at least recommended their employees to work from home.

GROWTH POTENTIAL IN WORKPLACE EQUIPMENT

When asked about the greatest current growth potential, the product areas laptops / notebooks, workplace equipment (headsets, devices, etc.) and communication software occupy the top three places. The data center products servers and storage seem to be less in demand at the moment , or projects are currently being postponed in precisely these portfolio areas. In the last few weeks, customers have probably focused almost exclusively on equipping their employees with the necessary workplace equipment.

In-depth discussions also show that it is in particular the IT infrastructure (servers, storage, network...) that is not urgent now that new acquisitions and optimizations are being postponed to later months. Nevertheless, many system houses (approx. 48%) also report that IT concepts and projects will definitely be planned and designed in the coming months.

89% SEE COMPENSATION WITHIN ONE YEAR

The question regarding the assessment of compensation for the effects is interesting. 35% say that the "pre-crisis level" will be reached in 4-6 months and 34% in 6-12 months. "From a system house perspective, the IT sector is therefore not yet in "crisis mode". The majority of system house managers are cautiously positive about the current period," says Gerald Holler - Managing Director of COMPRIS. "The majority of system houses do not seem to fear any dramatic effects, despite supply and availability problems."
